SUMMARY:PWA Power Luncheon: A Meeting Ground to Connect and Grow
DESCRIPTION:How Do You Market Death?\n\n\n\n\n\nKira Somach\nDirector of Sales and Marketing\nGarden View Care Center\n\n\n\n\nMarketing death\, or more specifically marketing products and services related to death\, requires a delicate balance of sensitivity\, empathy\, and practicality. Not many people are comfortable with the subject of death\, I certainly wasn’t when I started working for a group of skilled nursing homes where death was a regular occurrence. This presentation is about my professional journey learning about end-of-life in the world of skilled nursing and how I tried to prepare for the death of my mother. \nKey Learnings: \n\nDeath is a personal journey\, but talking about it shouldn’t be taboo\nYou need to delicate balance of sensitivity\, empathy\, and practicality to help ease emotional burdens\nYour life is your own legacy\n\n  \nAgenda: \n11:30 – 11:45  Prime Networking\n11:45 – 12:15  Pulse of PWA (announcements/intros/lunch)\n12:15 – 12:40 Power Session w/ our Guest Speaker\n12:40 – 12:45  Parting Purpose  \n  \nMore about Kira: \nDeath is a difficult subject for many people. When Kira started working for a group of senior skilled nursing homes 12 years ago\, she entered a world where death was a\nregular occurrence due to old age and infirmity. Before that\, she had never lived near elderly relatives\, and death was something unfamiliar to her. Watching the process of a person dying was an experience she had never encountered until she began working with the elderly. Witnessing it firsthand deeply affected and moved her. Every person has a life—it is theirs to live. But what remains when someone leaves us? What do we say to their loved ones? Kira’s book\, End of Life Love Notes\, was written to help people focus on the beautiful things a person leaves behind—the memory of their smile\, the comfort of knowing they are no longer suffering\, and the legacy of the love they gave us and the love we gave them. It is my hope that this book brings comfort to those who grieve. \nAfter publishing my first book\, my sister\, a veterinarian\, asked me to write one for dogs. In her pet clinic\, euthanasia is something many pet owners experience\, and\nshe wanted a way to offer comfort. That inspired End of Life Notes for Dogs\, the second book in this journey. \nI have always loved the art of words. Words create emotional imagery that can be a gift to all. \n\n\n\n\n\nYou have the choice of:  \nMom’s Lasagna\nFour Cheese Ravioli\nChicken Parmesan \nYour meal will also include:\n \nMaggiano’s Salad\nBaked Bread\nVera’s Lemon Cookies \ncoffee\, tea\, water\, and soft drinks\n \nPlease advise us of any food allergies at checkout.  Thank you. \n\n\n\nDisclaimer:  Photos and videos of all members\, guests\, speakers\, and affiliates may be used in any and all publications and materials promoted by PWA. \nThe Professional Women’s Alliance is an organization of women supporting one another for personal and professional development.  We strive to keep the annual membership cost affordable to encourage participation.  We also believe in “try it before you buy it” which is the reason we offer potential members the opportunity to attend two events before deciding to join.
